Tapping (EFT)

What is Emotional Freedom Technique?

The Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a psychological technique that involves hitting, or tapping on, the body’s meridian system to release unwanted habits, beliefs, or trauma.

It is based on the acupuncture meridian system that is thousands of years old.  EFT has been around for decades, but it hasn’t been until recently that it has gained widespread mainstream attention.  This is due in large part to the number of research studies that have been conducted over the last couple of decades. In study after study, the outcomes using EFT has astounded even the greatest skeptics.

Who should try EFT?

The World Health Organization (WHO) has long claimed that the impact of stress on the body cannot be overstated.  The reality is that no matter how devoted you are to the proper diet and lifestyle, you will not achieve your body’s ideal healing and preventative strength if emotional barriers stand in your way.

These stressors can come from present challenges or being triggered by an event that happened decades ago.  Both daily stress and long-term stress is likely the most detrimental contributor to your overall health and well-being. Stress-related diseases such as heart disease is one of the leading killers of people today. EFT Tapping helps to remove and reduce the distress so the body can re-balance itself and accelerate healing.

How it works

EFT uses elements of Cognitive Therapy and Exposure Therapy, and combines them with Acupressure, in the form of fingertip tapping on several acupuncture points.  Current research shows that when these tapping points are stimulated while addressing the issue at hand, the Amygdala, our brain’s “red flag alert center” is essentially calmed down so that the stress response is lowered and/or eliminated.  Once these neuro-connections are interrupted, the trigger is removed and the event that triggered the response no longer has control over our emotions.

EFT is effective for:

  • Phobias
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Pain
  • Addiction
  • Many other issues associated with unwanted habits, triggers, or beliefs

How long do I have to Tap before seeing results?

Tapping is an active interruption of the brain signal that stimulates emotional response; so it works instantly to calm the amygdala, thus lowering stress. The amount of Tapping required depends on the severity of the issue you are Tapping on. For example, tapping in real time while sitting in a stressful traffic jam may require a few rounds of Tapping which may take just a few minutes. Tapping on a deeply traumatic event that happened in the past may require several sessions with a Tapping coach.

Everyone is different, and the speed of results depends on each individual. However, unlike psychotherapy which focuses on finding answers by exploring the past, Tapping works in real-time to instantly release emotional triggers, allowing you to experience reduced stress levels after just a few rounds. And the absolute best thing about Tapping is it is easy to learn so you can Tap on your own!

For deeply traumatic issues, Tapping with a coach is encouraged; but once you learn Tapping, the daily aggravations, stressors, or cravings can be Tapped away any time you want!
